| Spectacular Kimberley wilderness retreat |
There are very few places in the world where you can enjoy fabulous scenery, gourmet food, spectacular fishing and ancient rock art - all while relaxing in a natural setting without a care in the world….This is one of them.
Kimberley Coastal Camp is hidden away on the remote north Kimberley coast and is so remote that the only access is by boat or helicopter.
A benchmark for wilderness development, Kimberley Coastal Camp is famous not only for its location and range of activities but also for its tiny size, unparalleled hospitality and environmentally friendly practices. It would be hard to find a lodge that intrudes less on its surroundings.
As you step from the helicopter onto the pristine white beach "doorstep” of the camp, you feel like you are one of very few people for hundreds of kilometres in any direction….you are.
The social hub of the camp is huge open room set just above the beach. Its many functions include meeting place, library and music room, conference room for planning each day’s adventures and dining room where the days highlights are re-lived accompanied by great food and much laughter.
Accommodation is in one of only 5 double or twin rooms each with their own view, 24 hour power and big ceiling fans. Bathrooms are ingeniously built against a natural rock wall.
Befitting its ideal location, the atmosphere at Kimberley Coastal Camp is relaxed and unpretentious. There are no pre-set itineraries here. You set the pace and can be as active or lazy as you like.
You might spend your days fishing for barramundi and dozens of other tropical fish in the pristine waters the area is known for. Another option is to explore on foot, by boat or helicopter, searching for the ancient and very beautiful rock paintings and experiencing the local flora and fauna first hand. Or you might prefer to take it easy on the boat, cruising and picnicking on deserted island fringed by the boab trees.
Kimberley Coastal Camp accommodates only eight guests at a time and is open during the Kimberley dry season from April to October each year.
Packages include scenic light aircraft and helicopter transfers from Kununurra, Broome or Mitchell Plateau, plus accommodation, meals and fully guided activities.
